Juan Mata fears another FA Cup giant-killing when Manchester United face Cambridge on Tuesday night. Louis van Gaal's side were held to a goalless draw at the Abbey
Stadium last month - earning the League Two side an Old Trafford replay. But after seeing City stunned by Middlesbrough and Bradford knock out
Chelsea in a round of Cup shocks, Mata insists United cannot afford to
look past Richard Money's side. Despite being overwhelming favourites to book a fifth round clash
with Preston or Sheffield United, Mata said: "In sports, having respect
for your opponent is a must. "Even more in football, where distances have shortened. That is
something we are aware of ahead of our game against Cambridge. Not long
ago they proved to be a tough rival. United were held to a goalless draw at the Abbey Stadium"We want to make it to the next round and we are absolutely focused
on that because, as I said before, the team is very excited about this
competition." United moved up to third in the Premier League with Saturday's 3-1
win against Leicester - and Mata hasn't ruled out challenging Chelsea
and City for a place in the top two. He added on his official blog: "Against Leicester we were able to
take our good chances in the first half, and that allowed us to have a
quiet game and to enjoy it more than other weeks. We don’t want to relax
though. "At this stage of the season we need to be more consistent than ever
in order to retain the third spot and to approach the teams in the top
two."
