Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney has challenged teammate Angel Di
Maria to "figure out" for himself how to rediscover his best form.
The Red Devils broke the bank to
secure the signature of the flying winger from Real Madrid in the summer but he
has struggled to establish himself at Old Trafford so far.
The 27-year old was woefully off the
pace during United’s Premier League clash with Sunderland on Saturday where
he was substituted at halftime.
Manchester United manager Louis
van Gaal has maintained he will give him enough time to adapt to the Premier League
and Rooney reckons it’s up to Di Maria to rediscover his midas touch.
Rooney told The Express:
"It was one of those days that every footballer has, but he is a great
player, he has shown that, and you don't lose your talent overnight. Hopefully
he will get back to his best and start giving some performances for us.
"He has got a lot of experience
and I think he will figure it out - we all have to do that sometimes. There is
nothing worse than when everyone keeps going on to you.
"You have to come to it in your
own way and I am sure he will be a big player for us between now and the end of
the season."
United are currently fourth in the
Premier League table but face stiff competition for the Champions League spot
from Liverpool and hope the Argentine international returns to his best sooner
rather than later.
