Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that he is in the dark over
the application of Financial Fair Play regulations.
The Frenchman tactician has always
supported the introduction of such measures but is not sure if they are working
since they came into effect.
Manchester City and Paris
Saint-Germain were slapped with heavy fines for violating the regulations but
Wenger has called for a clear stipulation of the rules as some clubs have found
ways to circumvent them.
The 65-year old reporters: "It
depends what you call Financial Fair Play as that notion has changed.
"Is it just your income
created by the gates? Is it the gates and commercial? Is it only the gates and
the television? Is it naming rights as well?
"It is not clear to people what
Financial Fair Play means, the rules are very complicated.
"We are a popular sport, so you
want to have clear and simple rules for everybody to understand.
"If I ask 10 people in the
street today [what it means] and then if you ask me, and I am in the job,
I don't have a clear idea anymore of what it means."
Recently Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho
suggested that clubs who breach the regulations should be deducted points.
Mourinho told reporters: "I
enjoy the challenge of the English competition.
"It's a good challenge. The only
thing that it is not nice is that you compete against the [clubs] who don't
follow the same rules.
"That's the only problem. I
don't think, and it's happened before, a team can be champions when you are
punished because you didn't comply with Financial Fair Play."
When asked how teams should be
punished, Mourinho added: "Points. Of course. I don't know [how
many]."
