Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has admitted that Ryan Giggs’ solo
effort in the 1999 FA Cup semi-final still gives him nightmares.
The Welshman scored the best goal
ever to help ten-man United dump Arsenal out of the competition at Wembley.
The Red Devils would go on to win
unprecedented treble that year including the Champions League.
The Gunners take on the Red Devils in
the FA Cup quarter finals at Old Trafford on Monday night and the
Frenchman has talked about ‘that goal’
Wenger told reports: "I can
still hear the shouts of that team, having won.
"They couldn’t believe it
because they were down to 10 men. And I think that put them in a state of
euphoria. In the same way, they won the title — just.
"I saw that goal again when
Giggs retired. I think that goal won them the treble because, if Bergkamp
scores, I think the game is over. It was a trauma for us and a positive for
them.
“That goal was certainly what decided
their season."
