Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker is of the opinion that teammate Mesut
Ozil is finally living up to fans’ expectations.
The 26-year old has been a subject of
intense criticism after his inconsistent displays for the Gunners since he
moved to the Emirates Stadium from Real Madrid in a club record£42.5m in the
summer of 2013.
Ozil has been on the sidelines for
three months with knee injury but returned with a bang as he scored and
assisted in Arsenal’s 5-0 thumping of Aston Villa over the weekend and
Mertesacker feels that his compatriot is showing his worth.
The towering defender told London
Evening Standard: "It was not on his best position in my opinion, he
played more on the left side, but he can play anywhere up front.
"It is good for him to get back
his fitness maybe on the wing he is doing a bit more defensive work as well. He
was always that promising talent, and now he is showing a lot more, he has had
so much experience in his young career."
Arsenal next face Tottenham in the
North London derby at White Hart Lane on Saturday.
