Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has condemned the club’s fans who were
involved in a racism incident on Tuesday.
A group of Chelsea fans were captured
preventing a black man from boarding a train in Paris prior to their Champions
League last 16 first leg clash against Paris Saint-Germaine.
The club has already suspended three
fans and Mourinho maintains those involved in the shocking incident don’t
represent Chelsea.
The Portuguese tactician told
reporters: "We want to make clear out disgust on behalf of everyone at the
club with regard to the incident on the Paris Metro, we are appalled.
“I felt ashamed when I found out what
happened. I refuse to be connected with the people. They are not Chelsea. This
is not Chelsea."
"We have suspended three
individuals. If they are shown to be guilty, they will be banned for life. We
have taken swift and decisive action so far."
Mourinho was also forced to elucidate
his earlier comments that there is no racism in football.
He added: "I didn't say that, I
said about clubs choosing managers or players because of race. I'm saying a
club never refuses a top manager or player because of race, I'm not saying
there's no racism in football."
Mourinho also supported the idea of
inviting the man who was racially abused to Stamford Bridge for a match.
Mourinho said: "I
don't even know if the gentleman loves football but for sure, he would love to
feel that the people who had this action with him are not the football club.
There are the true Chelsea supporters so yes I would support the idea even not
knowing if the gentleman loves football or not."
