Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes that Daniel Sturridge is
still England’s best striker despite the emergency of Tottenham Hotspur hit-man
Harry Kane.
Kane scored a brace
in Saturday's North London derby win over Arsenal, which took
his tally to 22 goals this season.
Rodgers however maintains Sturridge
is the top dog but believes the pair can work together at the international
stage.
Speaking ahead of tonight’s Premier
League clash pitting Liverpool and Spurs at Anfield Rodgers said:
"For me there's not anyone
better than Daniel Sturridge. He's got everything in his game if he's playing
consistently. His goal scoring record, his pace, his power, he's got
everything.
"But I'm sure Daniel will look
at it that there's another young English striker coming through and that will
really help him when they come together at international level.
“If Harry Kane's going to be of the
level to go on and play for England, which I believe he is, then that helps
Daniel and the other Liverpool players who play for England, because it means
you get another top-quality striker."
Kane, 21, is yet to receive an
international call-up.
