David Ospina has fired warning shot to Arsenal teammate Wojciech
Szczesny that he faces a fight to regain his status as the club’s first choice
goalkeeper.
While Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger
insists that the Polish international remains the club’s no.1 shot stopper,
Ospina, who has impressed in the last four matches is keen to change that
order.
The Colombian international has kept
four clean sheets since taking over from Szczesny who was axed by Wenger after
he was caught smoking in the changing room after the 2-0 loss to Southampton in
New Year’s Day.
Ospina told the club’s official
website: "I see it as a big responsibility to come to a great club
like Arsenal.
"It is a dream come true, now it
is my job to make the most of this opportunity that has come my way.
"I always watched the Premier
League when I was in Colombia because that was one of the leagues they showed
on television.
"At Arsenal we have very good
goalkeepers in the shape of Szczesny and Emiliano Martinez. The Premier League
has always had top-quality goalkeepers."
Arsenal face North London rivals
Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Saturday and it remains to be
seen whether Ospina will continue between the sticks.
