Ex-Manchester United manager David Moyes has revealed that he banned the consumption of Chips at Old Trafford because he felt some players were fat.
His decision was criticized by the
likes of Rio Ferdinand as the meal was a staple under Sir Alex Ferguson.
Moyes, who is currently in charge of
La Liga outfit Real Sociedad, has opened up over the move in an interview with FourFourTwo magazine.
The Scottish tactician, who lasted
only ten months of his six year deal at Old Trafford said:
"Yes, I did ban
chips.
"It was because a couple of
players were overweight and I didn't think chips were good for their
diet."
On the same breath, Moyes admitted he
was disappointed by the negative reception he was accorded when he led the Red
Devils to his former club Everton in 2013-14.
Moyes had spent 11 years at Goodison
Park but was booed as the Toffees hammered United 2-0 which precipitated his
sacking.
He added: "I wasn't surprised,
because I know how supporters react and I had left their club. But I was disappointed.
"I got Everton competing at the
top end of the league with a mid-table budget. I gave everything I could in
trying to make Everton the best I could. It was a long process but we did it
- my staff, my players and others at the club.
"We had some glorious nights at
Goodison and the fans were superb. I've got huge affection for Everton, it was
my life for over a decade."
