Barcelona sporting director Carles Rexach has launched a scathing
attack at Real Madrid claiming they sold Angel di Maria because he was ‘too
ugly’.
The 27-year-old was shipped out of
the Bernabue for Manchester United last summer in a British record £59.7m deal
despite playing a key role in Real's La Decima success.
Rexach believes that the transfer was
not purely down to football reasons suggesting that the Argentina international
did not appeal commercially to Real president Perez.
Rexach told Regio7: "Perez
looks at the world market and wants a team of Galacticos for everyone to
admire.
"Vicente Del Bosque and Di Maria
are too ugly for Real Madrid."
Di Maria has struggled to establish
himself in the Premier League and was pulled off at half-time during Manchester
United’s 2-0 win over Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday
